Frequently asked questions

What is Zwen Speech Pathology?

Zwen Speech Pathology is a Melbourne (Australia) based allied health service offering speech pathology support to families and children with communication difficulties. We are passionate about building the capacity of others and working holistically and collaboratively with those important to you.

How does your service work?

Upon initial contact we will set up a 15 minute online chat to discuss your concerns, so you can identify whether we might be the right fit for you and how we may be able to help. If we find that we are the right fit for you, we will arrange a time to meet in person.

Sessions can be held weekly, fortnightly or monthly depending on the need. Period of service can vary depending on the need and goals of the child and family. Our process is collaborative, centred around your child's needs and flexible to what is happening in your live at any point in time.

How much does it cost?

There is no cost for the initial online 15 minute meeting. Please feel free to contact us to learn more about our prices. We inform families to explore all avenues of Medicare rebates or Private Health Insurace, and NDIS fundingn supports. If suitable, we can support famiiles to request for access to NDIS supports if that is something you are intersted in. Please contact us so we can best help you identify the best supports that may be available to you.

Do you conduct formal, standardised assessments in the initial consultation?

We would not complete a formal/standardised assessment in the initial consultation unless a referral specifically identified a request for a particular assessment. Please feel free to contact us to answer any questions you may have in regards to this.

How can I contact you?

You can reach us by phone on +61 468 534 438 via.
email on info@zwenspeechpathology.com.
We are always happy to answer your questions.

How long are the sessions?

Therapy sessions can be 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 60 minutes in length depending on the goals, the setting and the collaboration required between those supporting the child. All session notes can be emailed to the child's teacher with the family's consent.

Do you I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral to see a speech pathologist. You may be referred by your GP through an Enhanced Primary Care Plan.

I just want an initial consultation/opinion. Is this an option?

Yes, we are happy to have an initial consultation to support you to identify whether further therapy sessions are required. For more complex cases we do recommend at least two to three sessions for us to really understand your child's skills to provide you a comprehensive opinion. We are also able to provide you with a report of our observations if this is required.

How do you measure progress?

The speech pathologist will record data on each session and note down changes and progress that are in line with your child's goals. We set goals at the beginning of each block of therapy and review these goals after each block.
